What is Exercise Physiology?

Exercise Physiology is a service devoted to examining the body’s response to physical activity.  In a nutshell, its primary focus is “exercise is medicine”.

Through individually tailored sessions including resistance, cardiovascular, core and flexibility work, Exercise Physiology can improve patients range of motion, strength, and functional capacity.

Exercise Physiology can help in the recovery or management of the following conditions:

  • Arthritis
  • Cancers
  • Chronic Pain
  • Depression/PTSD
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Injuries – Bone, Muscle, Nerve, Tendon
  • Osteoporosis

… and many more

At ‘Activate Life Rehabilitation’ all of our Exercise Physiologists are accredited with ESSA (Exercise & Sport Science Australia).  What does this mean?

Exercise Physiologists are university-trained, allied health professionals who specialise in the delivery of exercise, lifestyle and behavioral modification programs for the prevention and management of chronic diseases and injuries.  They evaluate and advise people in the areas of cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, mobility and body composition.  They are much more than an ordinary personal trainer at the gym.  Exercise physiologists have a wide range of knowledge about the human body and the benefit that exercise has on it, both mentally and physically.  Exercise physiologists are knowledgeable about the effects that exercise has on the musculoskeletal system, as well as on the cardiovascular and endocrine systems.  They can prescribe a course of exercises for either fitness or rehabilitation.

A consultation with an Accredited Exercise Physiologist is a fantastic starting point for a healthier life by providing education, time management, physical activity and exercise prescription guidance.  They are registered with Medicare Australia and Work Cover and offer rebates from a number of health insurers.
